Abstract A preoccupation with fragmentation has defined many recent responses to antiquity. Within scholarship this focus takes the form of poststructuralist-informed readings, which highlight how any text can be perceived as fragmentary due epistemologies that we use frame our readings. artistic practice there is a corresponding privileging through dismembering text. Yet one does not need deconstruct text, or point gaps in meaning persist textual encounter, think fragmentation. In essay, I propose utilising actual fragments within contemporary theatre simply an extension scale wider but represents qualitatively different endeavour holds unique benefits. suggest texts represent fertile material for immersive performance, sense lack contained their provides productive impetus audience's creation unified imaginary world necessary ‘deep' immersion.
